The acerola (Malpighia Glabra) is a small tree originally from the West Indies and found in the southernmost parts of the United States and in South America. It produces bright red berries whose pulp is acid and juicy. Due to its resemblance to the cherry, the acerola is also known as the West Indian cherry or the Barbados cherry.

The acerola is often prescribed as a stimulating tonic whose high concentration of vitamin C helps reduce fatigue. Vitamin C is also well known for its capacity to protect cells from oxidative stress.

Finally, due to its high dose of vitamin C, the acerola helps maintain a healthy immune system and helps the formation of collagen to maintain normal blood cell, bone, cartilage, gum, tooth, and skin functions.
