Activated vegetable charcoal has been well known since ancient times for its high capacity of adsorption. Made from carbonised coconut shells, its heat activity generates millions of microscopic pores that increase the surface area between charcoal and its environment.

After ingestion, activated vegetable charcoal is not absorbed by the human body, and remains in the alimentary canal where it is tolerated. Its porous texture gives it the ability to attract and trap various substances like toxins and gas.

Due to this absorbent power, activated vegetable charcoal is used to help alleviate uncomfortable gas after meals.
